As part of a broader public hearing on innovative technologies and technical standardization from a geopolitical perspective.
Technical innovation is the basis for economic development in industrial countries like Germany. Technical norms and standards are crucial. They carry the potential to spread certain technological developments on a global scale and create international markets. Standardization is mostly private and industry-driven, but can also involve state-actors. China has a state-centric system. Technical standards can determine how open markets are and which technologies are likely to be applied.
The hearing reviews recent trends in this context. What are the strategies and goals of the main actors? Are we observing a development of internationalization or protectionism? What are the conditions that policymakers can shape to further technical innovation?
